Illustrative L.A. Union Station

I did a rough draft painting en plein air last week at the Los Angeles Union Station. I’ve been working on converting the watercolor-like painting to a more abstract one in my cloisonnist style.

Quick Painting on Ventura Boulevard

I had some time to spend on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks this weekend, so I packed my paints in my car. I was lucky enough to get a good parking spot on the street and quickly painted the Boulevard from the back of the HHR, with my easel on the street. After 45 minutes or so I had a rough painting:

Painting on the Burbank Mall Terrace

I was invited through the Burbank Art Association and the Burbank Town Mall to the Mall Terrace last Friday to sell art while they had live music and dancing. Here I am painting the view.

Delorean Time Machine

I Painted this en Plein Air today at the Glendale Cruise Night car show.
Thanks to the Glendale Art Association for inviting me to paint at their booth!

Here I am, while the sun was slipping away and taking all the yellow light with it.

Working on Color Temperature en Plein Air

Today I painted at a small memorial at the Olive Recreation Center in Burbank, California. There is a pillar and a bench surrounded by trees and roses. This ended up more loose and impressionistic because I was working fast, mostly because it was a hot day and my acrylics were drying! I particularly wanted to work on color temperature today and I think it turned out OK.

Burbank Art Festival Plein Air Triptych

This is the painting I did live at the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission booth at the fair. It was a busy day – after I did most of the painting at noon, I returned to my car and took my paintings to the Burbank Art Association ‘booth’ at the mall to sell art. I sold three pieces this weekend. Thank you to all who gave me the opportunity to be there!

Zuma Beach Painting “Walk on the Beach”

The next painting I did at Zuma Beach in California I used more saturated colors. It’s less realistic because it was foggy and grey out there, but I was having fun.

Zuma Beach Plein Air Mono-color

Painted today at Zuma Beach, California with the Weekend Warrior Painters. The fog was thick this morning and everything was grey. The first painting I did is more of a mono-color painting because it really is only grey and yellow.
