I met the Weekend Warrior Painters at Stoney Point Park in Chatsworth, CA. It was very hot that morning but I preservered and found a spot to paint under an oak tree. Looking south I could see the tall sandstone rocks and a dusty trail.
Evening Plein air painting with the Weekend Warrior Painters at St. Leon Armenian Church in Burbank, CA. Thank you to the pastor for letting our group paint until 8PM. I am still working on my Cloisonnism painting technique, I have some final details to do but as it is here it’s mostly finished. I will post the final painting.
I went to the Glendale Narros Riverwalk with Isabella to find a site to paint. The LA River has trees, herons, blackbirds, pidgeons, and other wildlife. I was looking for something to paint that had great contrast because I wanted to try a new (to me) painting style, Cloisonnism. Cloisonnism is characterised by solid areas of color separated by dark lines. Gauguin’s painting of “Yellow Jesus” is considered a representative painting. The most striking sight was not of nature, but was seen when we passed under the freeway. There was a few feet of light illuminating two ladders, both inadequate to climb the wall they leaned against. Isabella took a picture and I used it as reference for this painting.
This is the third painting of this same subject. The first draft of this one didn’t excite me. I got out the black gesso and palette knifes and it turned a little abstract and high saturation.

Today I painted with the Weekend Warrior Painters at their 100th Painting Session at Vista Hermosa Natural Park in Los Angeles. The park is hidden north of downtown Los Angeles with great views of the city. It was overcast today but warm.
Escaped to the beach today to paint en plein air. I was frustrated but looking at the picture it turned out better than I thought.
I found a picture of me on Google by user viixiivartcollective painting the 5th Street farmers market for the Los Angeles Plein Air Festival April 15th. Thanks! I didn’t get any good “in action” photos from the market.
I have some prints left over from the Art Festival last weekend. While they last ? I’ve bundled them up, all seven for a low price: $15
