“Pose”- Random Vending Machine Photo #2

This painting is based on a collection of random photos purchased from a vending machine in a curio shop in town. The photo is of a young woman and young man, posed to be looking over their shoulders at each other. They could be brother and sister, having holiday photos done. Or they could be a couple. I decided to use pointillism on this one to give it more movement.

Quick Painting on Ventura Boulevard

I had some time to spend on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks this weekend, so I packed my paints in my car. I was lucky enough to get a good parking spot on the street and quickly painted the Boulevard from the back of the HHR, with my easel on the street. After 45 minutes or so I had a rough painting:

I was invited through the Burbank Art Association and the Burbank Town Mall to the Mall Terrace last Friday to sell art while they had live music and dancing. Here I am painting the view.

Working on Color Temperature en Plein Air

Today I painted at a small memorial at the Olive Recreation Center in Burbank, California. There is a pillar and a bench surrounded by trees and roses. This ended up more loose and impressionistic because I was working fast, mostly because it was a hot day and my acrylics were drying! I particularly wanted to work on color temperature today and I think it turned out OK.

BoldPas Plein Air

"BoldPas" Painting of Old Town Pasadena cityscape by Oscar Will

Last weekend I painted with the Weekend Warrior Painters at the annual “BoldPas” event in Pasadena, California. Old Town Pasadena hosted many art events, exhibits, and interactive art installations (fit for selfies etc.) I painted en Plein air along where the installations were on Big Bang Theory Way (an alley in Pasadena named after the show) The view I painted is looking across – I think- Colorado Blvd at the Beanery. I cleaned up the painting this week to sharpen it and here is the result.

“Instant”

At a family gathering, the eldest begrudgingly helps granny in the kitchen. The family prankster, eager to show of the new instant camera they got, barges in on them, yells “Say cheese!”, and poof goes the flash before anyone can do anything else but look up. The photo does not go in the family album, but eventually ends up in a mysterious vending machine with a bunch of other random photos, which is “purchased” by chance by the wife of an artist who find the photo so bizarre he must make a painting of it.

*Updated Version* I decided to give this painting the full Cloisonnism treatment with all the black lines and also repainted and redid some elements. The granny looked to amused in the first version, now she looks confused.

Burbank Art Festival Plein Air Triptych

Burbank Art Festival Plein Air Painting by Oscar Will

This is the painting I did live at the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission booth at the fair. It was a busy day – after I did most of the painting at noon, I returned to my car and took my paintings to the Burbank Art Association ‘booth’ at the mall to sell art. I sold three pieces this weekend. Thank you to all who gave me the opportunity to be there!
