Yesterday I was in “Beautiful Downtown Burbank” again painting. I’m not sure what exactly draws me to paint these city streets – is it the shapes of the buildings, the colors of the facades, the lines of the road and walkways, or all the above? This was painted in front of the “Urban Press Winery” looking across at the “Tender Greens” store. I have quite a collection of cityscapes, I imagine they would look good hanging in a local restaurant.

This is a painting I did some time ago using a photo of Hermosa Beach as reference. I never did a painting like it before. I’m dusting it off because I am lining up some paintings to go in a Summer theme show at the local Macy’s. More on that later…
I was pleasantly surprised that my entry in the BAA Spring Show won a ribbon for second place in the landscape division. The painting is “Brace Canyon – Yellow.” I originally was going to enter a painting of my cat, but the BAA just had a show called “Feathers and Whiskers” so I figured maybe they had seen enough cats. This painting to me was always a good example of when the palette knife works the best. I should do more…
