Catching up on some posts – This is an update of my painting from last year’s Burbank Arts Festival, returning May 18th and 19th in 2019. This is the view looking north up Palm Avenue from the booth I was painting from. There were a ton of people ebbing and flowing through the street but in the end I decided to leave a few vehicles to show there were some signs of life.
This view of this painting is from Palm Avenue looking north across San Fernando Boulevard (in Burbank, California.) This part of Palm Avenue is blocked for only pedestrian traffic and houses a movie theater and many restaurants and stores. It was a bright, warm late morning when I started painting and the acrylic paint was drying fast.
Today I painted “en plein air” on San Fernando Boulevard in downtown Burbank. I like the colors and the lines of the city scene and don’t mind the passerby’s who think it’s novel to see a painter live. I used my old “painterly” technique on top of the complementary under-painting technique I was using.
It was a warm winter day, painting with my daughter today at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round in Burbank, California.
This is now much lighter than the original version. I still see a part that is the wrong color but this is close enough for now.
Last Sunday I painted the baseball fields at Olive Recreation Center in Burbank, California. It was hot, in the nineties, and I painted from under a sycamore tree. I tried to capture the hanging branches in the painting but it’s hard to capture the depth in this flat style of painting. I’m still working on it, and I decided to post this since the final result so far is going to be noticeably different. Lighter sky, leaves more defined lines.
Now until the end of Fall artwork will be hanging at the Macy’s in Burbank in a show titled “Dreams.” It features artwork hand-drawn by local children and members of the Burbank Art Association. Below are some fuzzy photos from my phone.
Below is the flyer for a new event for kids & new art show opening entitled “Dreams” July 28th, 2018 2-4PM at Macy’s in Burbank, California. Kid’s art events are in the Children’s section on the 3rd floor and the art reception is in the First Floor Elevator Gallery.
I made a lot of finishing touches on my painting from the weekend. I tidied up the right side, added a wash to the left side, and finished the glass blocks towards the bottom. A big change was the alcove with the cross over it in the center. In the original, I didn’t have enough room for the cross, so I repainted the whole section. I thought halfway through that I ruined it, but it came out fine, I think.
Evening Plein air painting with the Weekend Warrior Painters at St. Leon Armenian Church in Burbank, CA. Thank you to the pastor for letting our group paint until 8PM. I am still working on my Cloisonnism painting technique, I have some final details to do but as it is here it’s mostly finished. I will post the final painting.
