The Santa Monica Beach Pier was very crowded this Sunday – the result of a confluence of events: St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break, mid 80s Fahrenheit inland, and the first weekend in a while it didn’t rain.
It didn’t stop me from getting in a quick Plein air painting of the beach crowds waiting for the sunset.
It was nice to be near the beach and Plein air Painting again. I joined the Weekend Warrior Painters in Venice, California in the Venice Canals. The walkways were narrow and there were a lot of tourists taking pictures on the bridges. A few took pictures of me painting!
This is a painting I did some time ago using a photo of Hermosa Beach as reference. I never did a painting like it before. I’m dusting it off because I am lining up some paintings to go in a Summer theme show at the local Macy’s. More on that later…
This is the finished painting (for now?) of the waves at Playa Del Rey beach in California. I’ve learned that when things aren’t turning out the way you want, trust the process and just paint what you see as shapes and colors.
