I was pleasantly surprised that my entry in the BAA Spring Show won a ribbon for second place in the landscape division. The painting is “Brace Canyon – Yellow.” I originally was going to enter a painting of my cat, but the BAA just had a show called “Feathers and Whiskers” so I figured maybe they had seen enough cats. This painting to me was always a good example of when the palette knife works the best. I should do more…
For the yearly #PleinAirpril event I painted at Johnny Carson Park with the Weekend Warrior Painters.
From April 28 – May 12, 2018 the Burbank Art Association is having its Spring Show at the Geo Gallery in Glendale (1545 Victory Blvd.)
I am honored to have my painting “Brace Canyon -Yellow” on display (an competing for a ribbon ?) It looks so fancy with a frame around it, and available for the bargain price of $75! ??
I’ve painted at least a hundred paintings outside in front of my subject (en plein air) from marshes to hillsides to sidewalks. Here are three tips I’d like to share:
1. Be prepared for any weather. I always carry a long-sleeved shirt in case it gets cold. I also carry two hats, one lighter to block the sun and the other is heavier with neck coverage.
2. Be prepared to improvise. I always carry a pocket knife for times I need to make a pallette from cardboard or cut a plastic bottle in half to use for paint water.
3. Bring a folding chair. The best places to paint don’t always have seating. Sometimes I’ll stand and put my supplies in the chair.
Sunny and warm at Point Dume in Malibu, California — a great day to paint with the Warrior Painters.
I found a picture of me on Google by user viixiivartcollective painting the 5th Street farmers market for the Los Angeles Plein Air Festival April 15th. Thanks! I didn’t get any good “in action” photos from the market.
I have some prints left over from the Art Festival last weekend. While they last ? I’ve bundled them up, all seven for a low price: $15

Thank you to the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission! They asked members of the Burbank Art Association to volunteer to do live painting demonstrations at their booth at the Burbank Art Festival April 14 & 15th.
The booth was very colorful. I painted the view up Palm St.
Thank you to Raw Materials Art Supplies for hosting the Los Angeles Plein Art Festival, it was great to see my work hanging with such great artists!
Come to the Downtown Burbank Arts Festival this weekend, a great place to see art, do art, and buy art!
Featuring The Warrior Painters (with art from me), part of the CTN Road Trip.
Also featuring art demonstrations by the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission and Burbank Art Association (including a demo by me)
Hope to see you there!
